QUEENSRŸCHE Singer Talks About Songwriting Process For New CD
April 13, 2004QUEENSRŸCHE singer Geoff Tate recently spoke to Ytsejam.com about the band's new live DVD, the current headlining tour and their upcoming studio album. Asked if former guitarist Chris DeGarmo will once again make a songwriting contribution to the new CD, Tate said, "You never know about that guy, sometimes he'll just...like he did for 'Tribe', he just called up and said 'Hey, I hear you guys are putting out a record, I got a few songs that might work, you wanna listen to them?' And then other times you don't hear from him, you know? You call him and call him and call him, he doesn't return you call, then one day he does. 'Hey, you wanna get together and do lunch?' (laughs) 'OK, sure.' "
With regards to the songwriting/recording process for the new CD, Geoff said, "We record all the time. We've got a ton of songs right now. Stuff we did while we were out on the road, stuff we've done on the breaks, stuff we've done with [touring guitarist] Mike Stone and stuff we haven't done with him. . . We don't actually go in the studio for a set amount of time to make the record, we kind of always work on the record. We write every day."
